Area: 14,000 sq. mi.; about the size of West Virginia.
Cities (June 2003) :Capital--Taipei (pop. 2.6 million). Other cities--(Kaohsiung 1.5 million), Taichung (990,000).
Terrain: Largely mountainous.
Climate: Maritime subtropical.
